About the album

Superstar is Josiah Clancy’s first high-quality album, featuring a new and improved original music style in contrast to Dreamers. Josiah's mixing, mastering, and audio production abilities have developed alongside Josiah growing up in the 5 years the album was in production, since age 16 up to 21 years of age.

The album includes 10 tracks, two of which contain lyrics written by the artist himself, all of which with unique bass design, crafted with incredible premium studio quality sounds. As you read further down, you'll find descriptions of each song and what it took to make them.

The first track, “Superstar”, is a mid-tempo hybrid of electro house, trap, and dubstep named after the iconic Adidas shell-toe sneaker. Being the cover song, there is never a dull second in this track that you can continually move your body to!

Following up is “Boost”, which is Josiah’s first of many lyrical compositions and is backed by an original trap beat style produced by the author of the lyrics. The inspiring words of wisdom embedded in the lyrics are to ignite a boost of motivation for listeners to conquer their goals for success. Thank JC later! This song is dedicated to my mother, my father, and every hard working parent out there making sure their children live a happy life.

Next, “Vibe Check” is the 2nd track with lyrics of which you can truly vibe with. Combining the bass of Josiah’s voice, the tones of the digital vibraphones, and the hard thumping kick, you’d vibe hard like you’re at a club, no matter where you are!

Proceeding, “DJ EJ” features the beautiful sounds of the flat 4 motor found in a Subaru Impreza. This phonk track is unlike most you’ve ever heard, despite including the common tuned cowbell every phonk track has. Pull up to a car meet with this playing on your aftermarket sound system, or put this song over your car video and you’re guaranteed to roll in views and head turners!

Coming in at number five is “NRG”, named after Houston’s reliable Reliant Stadium and NRG Park for the Texans, Astros, Rodeo Houston, and Monster Jam. This Eurodance track is packed with high energy, inspired by 90s and 2000s European techno hits such as “Caramelldansen” by Caramell. If you missed that era of music, give this track a listen!

The sixth track is “Light In The Night”, which was produced with the indoor amusement park “BALAXI/GlowZone” in mind, imagining the song playing ambiently through the sound system of the play area. The UV lights and neon glow atmosphere of a liminal space inspired not only the track, but also the JC logo upon recreating the entire building from memory in Unity3D for VRChat (build incomplete). This and the last song on the list were produced with “GlowZone” in mind.

Up next we have “Serenity”, which is very notable for the piano melody and future bass sidechains at each drop. You can either feel calm, energetic, or somewhere in between. It’s best to listen to this song in stereo, as you’ll love the shifting sounds of the chords phasing ear to ear.

As we transition to the last 3 more relaxing, retro synthwave tracks, we have “Cruise Control” and its ambient space synths to make you feel right at HOME, if you know what I mean. The first of the three electronic gems of synthwave tracks ending the album, try not to get highway hypnosis with “Cruise Control” on! (On a serious note, always stay alert on the road)

The second to last song of the album releases as “Release”. Ironic as Josiah has been "holding" this album from the public, but we’ll roast him later. This track was heavily inspired by HOME’s “Hold”, which explains the antonym of a track name. Enjoy the synths accompanying the stereo-wide bassline as the psy-trance intensifies.

The final track to complete the album is a masterpiece of sound design called “Virtual Reality”, which was produced with “GlowZone”, vaporwave, astral projection, liminal spaces, and even space in mind. This track is Josiah’s personal favorite, saving the best for last. This work of auditory art, best experienced with headphones or a high end sound system, features the perfect balance of ambience, bass, and progressive mid-tempo beats combined into an aesthetically pleasing audio experience. One that would fit the next TRON movie or video game soundtrack (I’m talking to you, Disney! Sign me up!)

The album is planned to be revisited for a special edition release. The deluxe edition will include revised versions of the original tracks from Superstar, along with instrumental versions of the songs with lyrics, additional lyrics to existing tracks, and remixes by other producers! There will be little information on this, as it is meant to be a surprise, hence why I've left it for the few that read all the way through to know!
